the window manager I use is GNOME. I can also reproduce it with wine-1.1.9 on ATI card. But this bug seem have nothing to do with the graphic drivers .

--- Comment #9 from John Jackson [email protected] 2009-01-19 14:41:51 --- I too have this problem on Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit, NVIDIA 8800GTS, using 180.11 driver. Not using a virtual desktop, Oblivion is fully patched to 1.2.0416 and wine is 1.1.13. Also using compiz.

--- Comment #10 from John Jackson [email protected] 2009-01-19 17:51:53 --- Also tried with metacity to no avail. I would like to add that I can skip the part where the text "Oblivion" fades in after the movie intro by pressing the space bar, so it would not appear to be anything to do with window managers.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16302
--- Comment #11 from Xavier Vachon [email protected] 2009-02-13 21:32:42 --- I am able to skip the intro movies in a virtual desktop if I move the mouse out of the virtual desktop. Pressing the space or escape key does the deal. The part where oblivion fades can be skipped whether the mouse is in the virtual desktop or now.
Using Gentoo X64 with latest wine-git.

--- Comment #18 from [email protected] 2010-05-12 11:44:57 --- This continues to affect the latest wine from git. A temporary workaround is to go to Oblivion.ini and under the General section look for SIntroSequence. Deleting the stuff on that line after the equals, so it just says "SIntroSequence=" will skip the entire sequence every time.

--- Comment #29 from Béla Gyebrószki [email protected] --- I tested this bug in 1.7.35 with the Steam version of the game.
The developer logos (Bethesda, 2K Games) when I start the game can be skipped only in full-screen mode, but they're unskippable in virtual desktop mode. The main movie however (when I start a new game) can be skipped either in full-screen or virtual desktop mode.

--- Comment #30 from Jordyn [email protected] --- Created attachment 51406 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=51406 Startup script for Oblivion
Just in case it's of any use at all, here's a simple script I use for starting Oblivion. It will automatically clear the SIntroSequence line if the game reset it. As is, the script also tells Wine to load native versions of a few DLL (winetricks: quartz, amstream, devenum), which was needed for me to prevent crashing within a minute of starting game.
Change WINE_BOTTLE to the path of your prefix. If you don't use OBSE, then change obse_loader.exe to Oblivion.exe
The only time now that I ever have to sit through the intro movies is if I install Oblivion on a fresh prefix and forget to run OblivionLauncher.exe at least once before starting game, or forget to copy a backed up Oblivion.ini
OS: Arch Linux Wine version: 1.7.42 (at time of posting this) Prefix: 64-bit Windows version: 7 Virtual desktop: no
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16302
--- Comment #31 from Jordyn [email protected] --- Forgot something... Of course, modify GAME_DIR to wherever Oblivion.exe is within the prefix. By the way, for a modded setup, it is usually not a good idea anyway for the game to be installed in Program Files.

--- Comment #32 from Stephan Sokolow [email protected] --- When running Oblivion windowed Under KWin, the window border state gives the impression that Oblivion is somehow refusing to accept focus during the unskippable parts.
(Neither Alt+Tabbing nor explicitly clicking on the window titlebar will switch it from the inactive appearance to the active one before the intro movies are finished)

What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |[email protected]
--- Comment #33 from [email protected] --- Basically this is easy to fix. You just need to figure out what wine code is in use while it shows the starting animation, then you add a esc check while playing video and if user hits esc, then fake that the animation has ended. In theory easy. I can't work on this, I dont have this specific game.
