Yes, I guess that's it, I must not have quite understood the messages. But
it did save and open text files fine.

I am not sure what you mean the here is, you say you get a message, what

message? Do you mean the fixme's? 
 
I tried it myself, I get a few fixme's but it works, it opens the file
and 
everything, mandrake linux 9.2 and the notepad.exe is from winXP....
