To repeat:
1. install RichTextEd.exe as described in bug 4144.
2. run RichTextEd.exe 
3. Enter anything in search field
4. Click "Find" (not "Find API")

Logging with +ole shows:

trace:ole:_invoke returns ffffffff
trace:ole:ITypeInfo_fnInvoke varresult: 0x7b91ec74->{VT_I4|VT_BYREF,0x7bbb4882}
warn:ole:ITypeInfo_fnInvoke invoked function failed with error 0xffffffff
