ALSA + DMIX works great for me! I'm using Wine 0.9 and also a copy of the latest
Wine CVS. DMIX is standard by default now in ALSA. I tested under 100% CPU
activity and it still was rocksolid.

(I'm using ALSA 1.0.9.)
