You know what... the MDI interface is out the proverbial window anyway.

per-program option to split the OpenGL viewports onto separate movable windows.
 This would make old, clunky MDI apps more desktop-friendly, IMO.  Especially if
the window locations were stored in a database so that your program would open
up and the windows would arrange themselves like they were...

Why re-invent the wheel when you can give them flight?  The idea of splitting
old MDI applications into separate windows would be a boon for xinerama users.
