[Bug 5578] Regression: Pacmania crashes

The situation got much worse, it now crashes immediately at start. I tracked
thios regression down to this patch:

Steps to reproduce:
1.Install and run Pacmania: it crashes immediately.
2. Revert the above mentioned path and recompile: Pacmania runs fine through the
          menu's again , untill it crashes in the game itself (probably ddraw
related)
