Just tried 0.9.8:

the game did not even start. There was a short black screen as if would, but
then it crashed immediately with this message:

X Error of failed request:  BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
  Major opcode of failed request:  143 (GLX)
  Minor opcode of failed request:  5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
  Serial number of failed request:  380
  Current serial number in output stream:  380

Will now also try 0.9.7 but I guess I have to downgrade to 20050930 again :(
