[Bug 9771] Steam Friends doesn't work

I've upgraded to 0.9.51 and Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy x64.  All issues still the same
and just wondering if anyone has any more of a lead on this?  I noticed with
Gnome I can "Sometimes" see messages when in a chat, but not often..  I never
get messages that were initiated with me without me opening a chat with them
first though.

I think its an issue with the way steam tries to raise a new IM window, I'm not
exactly sure what their method on that is that is any different than any other
program, but it seems to be part of the issue as far as I can tell.  As far as
not receiving the text, it can't be a color issue because its not even there to
highlight.  I've been tinkering with this a lot to try to find out more for the
fine wine developers to have a lead on.

Also seems that the steam friends itself isn't really responding much, it
doesn't update like ever..  I have to log off (Which also doesn't show that
I've logged out until I close and reopen the window), then log back in to see
the current status's of my friends.  I think its a redraw issue honestly.  

I'm a software developer, but a more recently migrated to Linux (in the past
year), so I don't know just yet how all of the code for Linux software works,
but I am learning.

Just a summary, check into the draw functions for the application, it just has
to be a fact of not redrawing when receiving information.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated if I find out anything more.
