Im also running Gentoo and an Nvidia Graphics card.

Maybe it has something to do with the version of some related package used by
wine. In any case, I will try one more time following that German Howto step by
step in the next few days and see where it leads me.

BTW, what Desktop evn are you using? Im using Gnome (grasping at straws here).

Also, it would be very helpful is eg Tony (stating it works for him) would give
us any detail of the system he tried it with.

Demo installs fine for me with wine 0.9.40, kubuntu feisty, nvidia Geforce 5200,
    nvidia 1.0.9631+2.6.20.5-16.29 drivers.
