CrossOver implements TrueType Anti-Alias Hinting not SubPixel Font rendering.
As far as I know the code to do this is also in Winehq, all thats needed is to
recompile FreeType with the patented ByteCode interpreter enabled. The same
thing would happen with ClearType. We've linked to patented code before such as
the S3 texture compression library so that does not seem to be a valid reason
to not implement it even if it can't be shipped as enabled by default.
