After looking at the output more carefully I found out exactly what the problem
is - CNC3 is trying to set the resolution to 800x600 by default, which the
driver doesn't seem to support on my system ("xrandr -s 800x600" doesn't work).
I was able to work around it by enabling desktop, chaging the resolution from
inside the game to the native 1680x1050, and disabling the desktop.
It is certainly a fault in the drivers as 800x600 is available on WinXP.
