Thank you very much Dimitry. Here is the output of set:

ubuntu at ubuntu-laptop:~$ set | grep LC_
LC_ALL=he_IL.utf8
ubuntu at ubuntu-laptop:~$ set | grep LANG
LANG=he_IL.utf8
LANGUAGE=he_IL.utf8
ubuntu at ubuntu-laptop:~$

How would I make xev show correct keyboard input? If this is a RTFM could you
please point me in the right direction? I've googled but I cannot find anything
that even seems relevant. Thanks.
