Hmm. There are sometimes sound-related hangs at the start of the program in
case wine crashed or was killed in the middle of operation - then there's a
semaphore left in system apparently in some non-sane state, and wine hangs at
start. This can be verified by running 'ipcs' command, there should be
something like

------ Semaphore Arrays --------
key        semid      owner      perms      nsems
0x0056a4d5 ..........

it can be cured by removing this semaphore(ipcrm) or rebooting. I don't know if
that's your case, but I get this problem all the time when killing games.
