I had a similar issue with a wacom intuos (5 axes). Same log, same results.
However, it worked after I replaced IsXExtensionDevice with IsXExtensionPointer
in dlls/winex11.drv/wintab.c 

xsetpointer -l reports stylus, eraser and cursor devices as
"IsXExtensionPointer" too, instead of "..Device".
