One further bit of weirdness...

when I run the ulimit -s unlimited

I start EverQuest2.exe up... the whole screen goes black (even when running in
virtual desktop mode) and the virtual desktop section begins to update.. I see
that.. the window that I run EQ2 from updates and I see the trace logs, but the
remainder of the screen is blank until I get a font load error and the app
shuts down. Then I can move windows around and the background updates but areas
still have black sections on them. These remain until I restart X.
