Note, the problem disappears if I follow the HOWTO from the 1.x version of
Vampire:

Setting OffscreenRenderingMode=fbo fixes it.  It's still a bug, I guess, just
with an easy workaround, and probably the bug is well-known (that some
OffscreenRenderingModes will cause this error in some cases)?  I don't know
what the status of this report should be.
