Screenshot of the rendering bug with latest git, no patches applied

I tested the latest git with no patches. The problem of black squares is still
there although the error messages are slightly different...

Also the patch you submitted kinda worked on the UI bug but I think you should
submit it in the other bug report as this bug is to do with the creature
rendering rather then the User Interface.
