All games based on halflife2 engine runs slow for me too. I have try as
 1280x1024 height textures shaders all for height level an have 10fps
turn to
 800x600 all to low and have 8fps O_o 

Any ideas ??

wine-1.1.8 (fallout3 rans fine).
