Sounds like it didn't install properly. Can you:
$ rm -rf ~/.wine
Install PPV 2007
$ cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Microsoft\ Office/Office12/
$ wine PPTVIEW.EXE

And see if it works? Where are you getting wine? Are you building from source,
using WineHQ, or the ubuntu repos?
