This is weird.  Every test back to the first patch after 0.9.51 threw up the
invisible text bug and the description of the first patch doesn't seem a likely
source of the bug.  I then checked out 9.51 (which is what I have installed as
the working version from a .deb download from winehq) and built that.  The
locally built version shows the problem, the installed version doesn't.  It
appears that the invisible text is an artefact of my local build environment.
