the fact that medisoft uses the unc share to locate the server is the reason
why I can not simply use a mapped drive letter.  The letter gives no info about
the actual server.

The stumbling block appears to be that medisoft first validates the unc share
before it tries to talk to the server.  This is speculation based on observing
the failure, I have not actually monitored the wire.

What I can tell you with total certainty is that medisoft and unc shares do not
work.  I also see a lot of other apps in the database which are reported as not
working due to networking problems.

Therefore I say that you are doing people a major disservice by having docs
that claim it works when there is so much evidence and bugs to the contrary.
