I can confirm your results using virtual desktop (either the nVidia drivers or
my monitor suck, I'll need to create custom modelines for the other
resolutions)

I just noticed I still had ORM=fbo and GLSL=disabled... switching to
ORM=backbuffer fixes the performance problems with medium postprocessing,
switching to GLSL=enabled makes the postprocessed scenes (plus Max in normal
scenes) solid colored again.

It's quite a mess, splitting up into different bug reports would probably be a
good idea.
