I can confirm the existance of this bug, although it is in a seperate game.
Running The Chosen - Well of Souls the screen floods with:
err:d3d_surface:IWineD3DBaseSurfaceImpl_BltFast DXTC decompression not
supported

Current Specs:
Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 32bit
Wine 1.0rc5
ATI Radeon X1650 512MB PCI-E
Ati FGLRX 8.493 drivers

Testing done:
Have tested with opensource radeonhd drivers and mesa, this bug does not occur
with that configuration.
