No, MAC users are experiencing the same issues as well - bright galaxy and no
UI. We both experience the same bug, so there is definitely an issue.

Some have had very limited success by altering a file in spore, or a registry
entry, neither worked for me.

I don't believe you're completely correct; I can't speak for all mac users, but
I am able to run the Spore Creature Creator trial with no problems on my
MacBook Air.  I am aware that Spore on Mac is unsupported on some video cards,
but that there is a workaround (see tuaw's June 17th article)
