Can confirm this in Wine 1.0.

I've attached a debug log (WINEDEBUG=warn+all), I believe the relevant line is
1842.

fixme:d3d_surface:IWineD3DSurfaceImpl_LoadTexture (0x272c848) Operation not
supported for scratch textures

As mentioned before this problem also appears in other games. In fact, there's
an existing bug for this problem in Max Payne
