I wrote tiny test, and Hans' patch resolves name of the executable correctly.
So the cause of the crash probably lies somehwere else. 

Stacey, could you apply Hans' patch,and then run with
WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid wine appname.exe &>log, and attach the bzipped2 log
file to this bug. thx
