Yes.  The modal dialog box appears and the game ends when "ok" is selected
(only button choice).

See below - I believe it is differences between i686 and amd64 distros.

It took a while (the reason for delay in responding to your questions), but I
created the exact same setup (same deb packages) on a i686 debian distro
version (vs. amd64) and the AOM trial version WORKS as expected (although I
have mouse issues - but that's a different problem).  I used the same computer
with different disk drive, to eliminate any hardware differences (I have an
Intel chipset that can run as 32bit or 64bit). Thus, I'm fairly convinced that
differences between the distros are the issues.

For Xorg:
X Window System Version 1.3.0
Release Date: 19 April 2007
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 1.3
Build Operating System: Linux Debian (xorg-server 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12lenny2)

I use the on-board graphics controller:
(--) PCI:*(0:2:0) Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller
rev 2, Mem @ 0xfdf00000/19, 0xd0000000/28, 0xfdf80000/18, I/O @ 0xff00/3

I'll post a log file.
