I upgraded to 0.9.61 and tested the joystick approach (without touching
anything as that is the default in my box): All the buttons were recognized in
the game (I had to remap them but that was no problem).

I have not tested yet the evdev aprroach, I'll post here how it went, but since
at least one approach fixes the issue, I guess the bug could be closed.
