I tested a bit more and found out that JSmooth starts up with Wine 0.9.61 if
you set the Windows version of Wine to Windows 2000.
Unfortunately, Wine then completely corrupts my desktop (everything but the
JSmooth window goes black). I don't know if this is just my setup (tested with
Ubuntu and Kubuntu-8.04 with Nvidia card and proprietary drivers).
Maybe someone could do a quick test and see if it works better on other
systems...
