Update:

Google search reveals that this is possibly a FMS bug. It occurs even on native
windows systems that do not have a com port. This is of course an ungraceful
exit case for FMS, especially since a lot of controllers are USB now.

See:

http://io.wz.cz/?p=7

for details. Here is a shamelessly copied quote incase that blog dies:

-- Quote:

I am using FMS on computer without serial port. I have USB Logitech Dual Action
Gamepad with two analogue joysticks that can be quite well used instead of
radio.

FMS 2.0 Alpha 8.5 on computer without serial port crashes with following error:

Application Error

Exception EComPort in module FMS.exe at 0008AFEC. Registry error (win error
code: 2).

Solution:

Create registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\SERIALCOMM

The entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE are recreated each time the system
is started. So you have to create the key.

-- End Quote.

Changing status to Invalid.
