Yes I'm sure. There are only two wine binaries on my system: the one in
/usr/bin is version 0.9.59 from the Ubuntu repositories and Half Life 2 works
without problems with it.
The other one is the one I compiled myself.

I just double checked and reran Half Life 2 with the very self compiled wine at
version 1.0-rc1-104-g2470b0b, Half Life 2 doesn't start.

Are there any additional tests I can run or information I can provide?
