Works for me.

What does
  WINEDEBUG=+process sh winetricks msxml3
show?  (Attach, please.)

Does using a windows style path, e.g.
 wine msiexec /i `winepath -w /home/anac/.winetrickscache/msxml3.msi`
work any better?
