This problem affects me, too. I'm also using an ATI on fglrx 8.493 (8.5).
However, as on the one hand this only happens on ATI cards and on the other one
native UNIX apps work fine I think this should be marked as a showstopper for
1.0 until we either fixed it or know properly that it's ATI's fault.
