Does bug #5178 only exhibit with emu10k-based cards?  I stopped having this
problem once I switched to the on-board nvidia soundcard.
I'm fine with this bug being marked as a duplicate of #5178 as long as we don't
lose any of the specifics (assuming they are relevant in both).
