I also have this problem.
I have an Intel p4 1.8Ghz, with a Radeon 9250, using the free module.
I've had this problem with both 1.0 and 1.03 on ubuntu hardy, wine 0.95/0.96
and ubuntu intrepid, wine 1.1.7
I also have this problem with Kotor 2: Sith Lords. (I believe they use the same
game engine).

Apart form the texture problem, and the mouse issue it runs quite well for me,
though I haven't played far into it.
