no, I do not use pulseaudio at all. alas, today the problem resolved itself -
it was an alsa bug. after updating to alsa 1.0.18 the static went away, even
after downgrading to wine-1.0. I'll stay with oss though, alsa output is still
a bit too crackly for my tastes.
