I tried this again, as root this time, and got the same results, minus Ubuntu
crashing.

Errors in console that strike me as relevant are:

fixme:msimtf:ActiveIMMApp_OnDefWindowProc Stub (0x402a6 d 1 32fc78)
err:ole:ITypeInfo_fnInvoke did not find member id -518, flags 0x2!


also perhaps relevant to the crashing is that even after repeatedly hitting
Ctrl-C to quit wine, wine continues to spew this on console:

fixme:shdocvw:InPlaceActiveObject_TranslateAccelerator (0x18bad0)->(0x13de30)
