You know I don't want to get bogged down in a semantical argument but...

include/freetype/config/ftoption.h:

  /*************************************************************************/
  /*                                                                       */
  /* Uncomment the line below if you want to activate sub-pixel rendering */
  /* (a.k.a. LCD rendering, or ClearType) in this build of the library. */
  /*                                                                       */

----------------

And from the thread you posted...

by Werner LEMBERG (core developer of the FreeType font rendering library)

Yes, but the description of the additional `modes' and `features' is
far too superficial to be of any value.

Well, (horizontal) subpixel rendering has an increased horizontal
resolution (by a factor 3) -- I think this is the same for ClearType,
but this needs confirmation.

------------

My point in saying Sub-Pixel rendering AKA ClearType was to reduce the number
of duplicate bug reports. If this is going to be a WONTFIX debating the merits
of my title (which I and apparently the FreeType guys, think is perfectly
valid) does nothing to address the problem. People are complaining about the
lack of SubPixel Rendering which to them coming from Windows means a lack of
ClearType.

If rather than fixing the problem, in software if possible or documentation as
a can't/won't fix, the issue is just going to ignored, then I won't bother
filing quality bug reports any longer.
