I'm not that stupid.

Of course I've checked the volume. I've even tried restarting the pulseaudio
sound server, and even the computer, but none of this helped.

The only thing that helps is "sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils reset Intel".

It's just a guess, but I think wine somehow corrupts the alsa state (the
/var/lib/alsa/asound.state file). This might not even be the wine bug, but I
can't recreate it with any native linux application. It started to happen
within san andreas and heroes of might and magic after applying the latest
updates last weekend, which also included wine 1.1.6.
