Since you're a KDE4 user there's a simple workaround.

Enable 4 virtual desktops in System Settings > Desktop > Multiple Desktops and
enable compositing in System Settings > Desktop > Desktop Effects. Open the
"Screen Edges" tab and configure a corner of your choice to trigger "Desktop
Grid" effect.
Next time simply start Photoshop on it's own virtual desktop. Whenever you need
another application simply drag your mouse to a corner to trigger desktop grid
and use whatever application you need on another desktop. When you want to go
back to Photoshop use the desktop grid again. That way you don't need to
minimize Photoshop and it won't mess with the z-order of toolboxes.
