I can confirm your quick workaround. I'm running Fallout 3 on a Nvidia 6800GT
128MB with lowest settings and it works :)

- I applied the WinD3D patch as suggested on the appdb howto
- commented two lines in stats.c
- compiled
- installed
- retraced all installation steps from the playonlinux script

However I didn't accomplish to build a deb file nor an improved playonlinux
script. So folks, you have do it yourself for now...
