Shows dotnet20, then target application ai8.3.exe 

Half way thru ai8.3.exe application install I get window "winevdm.exe
encountered serious error" with an OK button.  Not hitting the button in some
number of seconds will log that a thread was timed out. The entire prcess never
moves from that point.

If I rerun from the clean wine case and click the button in time then the
install runs to completion and the application (at least with superficial
testing) seems to operate - notwithstanding the winevdm.exe problem and a large
number of wine "errs" and "fixmes".
