I've got sound only, no graphics at all with 1.1.32/1.1.33 i386 package for
Ubuntu 9.04, playing Heroes of Might and Magic Complete (Ubisoft release) 
It works propely with 1.1.18 i386.
settings: all default.
hardware: GF4 MX440 64MB, AMD Athlon XP 1700+, 768MB DDR333 RAM, MSI KT3 Ultra2
board.
