I believe these are two separate problems. The one indicated here was that
setting "Local hard disk" in winecfg did not cause the matching registry entry
to be inserted, so the next time you opened winecfg it reverted to
"Autodetect". This problem was fixed when my patch was committed in ca. 1.1.22.

Bug 20974 seems to indicate that the API for reporting drive type back to
applications is faulty. I didn't have any applications suitable for testing
this behaviour.

It appears that 20974 is not actually a regession as was implied from reopening
this bug. They are clearly very closely related and I have no objection to the
Duplicate status.
