Yes, the patch breaks some functionality that worked without the patch applied.
Neither way is correct and I cannot say if it is more or less correct with the
patch applied or not. This is the reason why Alexandre didn't yet accept it.

Since I'm now having winter hollidays I hope I'll find some hours to look at it
again and create a better patch.
