I did some further digging, and it appears this is actually a duplicate of bug
17809 and indeed related to gnutls.
32bit users need to enable the gnutls-useflag, and 64bit users can try this
workaround: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-774035.html
Would be nice if someone could confirm if building with +gnutls fixes this bug
for him, if it does so I guess this should be marked a duplicate.
