With 1.1.35 I do not get the error any more.
Unfortunately, now there is no audio at all, you can't hear anything.

The same avi file opened with avidemux works fine, video and audio.

Moreover, now it is extremely slow to start the playback of the file; that is,
it tooks many seconds to start the video since you press the space-bar (or
click on play, etc)
