Well what I did was open the Open or Save File dialogue window. By default the
text box that contains the file to open/save is empty. First single-click any
file in the file browser window, this should now make the file name appear in
the text box. When you first click the name in the text box it will auto-select
all (which you said is a separate issue). Click somewhere in the text box again
or press an arrow key to deselect everything. Then, while the text box is still
active press ctrl+a and it should reselect all of the text in the box again.
