Did simply removing these files fix it, or did removing them and replacing them
with read-only blank files (as per bug 6095 comment 44) fix it?

If it's the latter, then it's a duplicate of bug 6095, which has mutated from a
HTML rendering failure due to something funky Couter-Strike: Source does when
embedding MSHTML to a game crash due to something funky Couter-Strike: Source
does when embedding MSHTML.

If that's the case, it'd make more sense to mark that bug as a duplicate of
this, as it's dealing with the older Wine-Gecko 0.1.0 and earlier (and in fact
it notes that this wasn't a problem with the Mozilla ActiveX control) while
this bug is exclusively dealing with the new shiny Wine-Gecko 0.9.0.
