I don't know if movie playback is now supported in Warcraft III, you should
rename the movie directory to disable the cut scenes.

mv Movies Movies.bak

When you want to watch the cut scenes, you might use mplayer or xine.

You should use -opengl. Is the check box 'fullscreen' is ticked into Warcraft
III video options ?

About your garbled image, I have experienced a bug with the textures each time
I minimize/switch (alt-tab) the Warcraft III game. There is a workaround fix to
prevent the window to be minimized.
